Estelle & Allan Eisenkraft

You might say that JCC Rockland was conceived in Allan & Estelle’s living room some 40 years ago when a group of Jewish leaders got together to discuss their idea for a (YM-YWHA) Jewish Community Center in Rockland County. In the years that followed Allan & Estelle’s enthusiasm and generosity never wavered.

Allan was the 2nd & 4th President of the JCC and he has served on the board for more than 20 years. Allan’s involvement in community service began soon after he and Estelle moved up to Rockland County from the Bronx with their family in 1970. (Almost 50 years ago). He has held leadership positions in Jewish Federation & Foundation of Rockland County, B’nai Brith Youth Organization, Nanuet Hebrew Center and Men’s Club President, where he was duly recognized as a Lifetime Board Member. Recently Allan was honored by Jawonio with the inaugural North Star Award recognizing his 35+ years as an invaluable Board Member.

In his professional life, Allan retired in 2005 as CEO of Yonkers Industrial Development Corp. after 50+ years in the Real Estate profession. A CCNY graduate Allan served as President of its School of Business Alumni Society, House Plan Alumni Society, and he was a past Board Member of The City College Fund.

A Temple University graduate, Estelle taught elementary school in New Jersey & New York. She has been a Community volunteer for most of her 49 years in Rockland County. A Past-President of Mid-Rockland Chapter of Hadassah and a long time member of the Regional Board, she was inducted into the Lower New York State Region Honorary Council. Estelle & Allan are members of the Society of Major Donors of Hadassah.

Throughout the years other organizations have benefited from her leadership and Philanthropy. Estelle is a founding member of the JCC, past Vice-President of the Nanuet Hebrew Center and its Sisterhood, former Board Member of Jewish Federation & Foundation of Rockland County, the Holocaust Museum & Study Center, and Hillel of Rockland Community College. She is a 40 year Board Member of Women’s Division of Israel Bonds and currently serves on its Advisory Council. Estelle is most proud of graduating from the Florence Melton Adult Study Program, as well as her 30 years of Pro bono training of boys and girls, and adults, for their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs at the Nanuet Hebrew Center.

Estelle & Allan have been champions of the JCC and the Jewish Community Campus as they dedicated the Eisenkraft Gymnasium in honor of their children and grandchildren.

They look forward to celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary in August with their greatest passion, their wonderful family; Sharon and her two sons, Brian (Gaia) and Josh, Meryl (Jeff) and their two sons, Riley and Zachary, Debbie (Marc) and their two children, Maya and Cooper, and soon to welcome their lst great grandchild! They feel truly blessed!

Gwen and Steve Rosenzweig

Gwen and Steve Rosenzweig have spent a lifetime contributing to the community they have made their home. Whether giving time to the Jewish Federation & Foundation of Rockland County, or serving as long-time supporters to their synagogue, they have given generously, in time, money and spirit. And it is no secret with Steve being the longest-serving president in JCC Rockland’s history, that the JCC has always been a top priority for their family, going back to its founding.

Steve speaks fondly of being appointed by Temple Beth El’s Rabbi Louis Frishman to serve as a liaison to the newly-formed Federation. That set him on a course of community service from which he has never swerved. He recognized early in his community involvement that a JCC, or at that time, a YM-YWHA, would benefit and welcome Jews of all levels of commitment, and provide a much-needed focus for a variety of social, educational, athletic, and cultural activities for the entire community. Under his leadership during a previous term as president, the JCC purchased its first permanent home on Route 45.

In addition to being one of the Founders, he was very involved in the groundwork that went into building the Rockland Jewish Community Campus, which the JCC and many other Jewish organizations today call home. He is currently very active in Rockland County’s newest Jewish congregation, the Reform Temple of Rockland, serving on several committees at the synagogue.

In Gwen, Steve has met his match when it comes to community service. She has given her time to many past fundraisers for the JCC, served as a past board member for the Federation’s Women’s Campaign, has been involved in her synagogue and in Women of Reform Judaism. She has traveled to Israel five times, including on a State of Israel Bonds mission. She enjoys working out in the JCC’s Russin Fitness & Wellness Center, playing mah jongg, and participating in her temple’s theater group. She has been a travel agent for 25 years, and loves visiting exotic places, including India, China, Tibet, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Her main passion outside of the JCC is spending time with her grandsons.

When Steve first got involved in the JCC, he never thought his own kids would really get to see the benefits of such an organization could yield; at the time, Stacey was 16 and Felice was 13. What he never imagined was that his grandchildren would be the beneficiaries of that involvement.

Today Stacey, who is married to Marc Fromowitz, has two children, Josh (20) and Zachary (16), both of whom have participated in the JCC’s sports programs, in JCC Maccabi and worked in the JCC’s camp. She also served on the board of directors of the Rockland Jewish Academy, within Rockland Jewish Community Campus. She continues to volunteer for Jewish causes besides working full time for an accounting firm. Felice also took lessons from home to heart, and serves on the board of directors of the JCC of MetroWest in West Orange, N.J. Married to Jonathan Flitt, they have two sons, Jeremy (12) and Dylan (10) who are also active at their JCC.

Steve was a principal owner of Kraft Hat, a manufacturer of men’s and women’s cloth hats. They have lived in Rockland County for 45 years. Steve enjoys his down time, relaxing on his boat, scuba diving, the occasional bungee jump, spending time on the beach in East Hampton, spending time in Florida as well as traveling with his wife, Gwen. They just renewed their vows celebrating 50 years. His greatest leap, however, is the one he took into community service, from which all of Jewish Rockland has benefited.

Larry Weiss Sports Teen Leadership Award Winners

Justin Mizrahi

Justin Mizrahi is a senior at Clarkstown North High School and the President of the Student Government. He attended Temple Beth Sholom for Hebrew School and his Bar Mitzvah. In football he was an Exceptional Senior Selection for NYS Section 1 for the Center position. He was selected by his senior class as the “Student That Did The Most For CNHS.” He has played in the JCC Basketball League since kindergarten and also
coached younger teams for the past two years. Prior to his senior year, Justin was a member of the new Robotics Team (8-Bit Rams) which led to two Regional FIRST Championships at Rockland Community College and then traveled to St. Louis and Detroit to compete for the National FIRST Robotics Championships. This year he made his acting, singing and dancing debut in the school musical “Copacabana” and had a load of fun.

Justin will be attending the University at Buffalo in the fall and is proud to be transitioning from the Clarkstown North Rams to the Buffalo Bulls.

She has over a 100 grade point average, is a member of multiple national honor societies, and an AP Scholar with distinction.

She has been involved in various sports since the age of 3, including JCC basketball, and she started running track in the spring of her freshman year. She is graduating as a three season track athlete, a captain of her spring team, with a coaches award and three all league pole vault honors. She is a captain of Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse, a member of the Principal's Open to Change Committee, the Model UN club, and other school based organizations.
