Santtu-Matias Rouvali conducts a program exploring the stages of life. Julia Wolfe calls music her fountain of youth, and her piece by that name offers, writes the composer, “a rhythmic, high-energy swim.” Soprano Miah Persson sings Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs, the composer’s farewell to his life and artistic journey. Sibelius’s Fifth, commissioned to celebrate his 50th birthday, ends in staggering triumph.
