About the Jewish Community Campus and JCC

The Jewish Community Campus in Rockland County is a 135,000 square foot building located in West Nyack NY which is home to JCC Rockland, Rockland Jewish Family Service, & Jewish Federation & Foundation of Rockland County. JCC Rockland provides programming primarily in Rockland County NY and JCC of Northern NJ provides programming in Western Bergen County and the Pascack Valley region.

Position Summary

Jewish Community Campus, Capital Campaign Responsibilities

  1. Cultivation and solicitation of donors
  2. Implement a coordinated strategy to attract the maximum financial support from donors
  3. Support and train lay leaders in their cultivation and solicitation activities
  4. Work with lay committees as required
  5. Manage existing and new capital campaign supporting documents including dedications, marketing materials and the like
  6. Manage and oversee Life and Legacy campaign and efforts

JCC Rockland and JCC of Northern New Jersey, Operations Fundraising & Development Responsibilities

  1. Develop annual fund development plans for JCC Rockland and JCC of Northern New Jersey
  2. Work closely with CEO and manage and oversee JCC Rockland Director of Donor Relations
  3. Oversee and manage fundraising events
  4. Manage lay leadership relationships as well as interactions with staff in cultivation of potential donors
  5. Research public and private grant sources (agencies, corporations, and foundations) to identify sources of funding
  6. Organize individual donor campaigns (e.g., major donors, direct mail, others)

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of development experience with demonstrated success soliciting and closing major gifts: experience in Jewish communal work preferred.
  • Creativity and passion complimented by broad experience in the various elements of fundraising
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term productive relationships with all donor types including major donors, board members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve or exceed goals and meet deadlines under pressure in a fast-paced organization emphasizing teamwork, respect and excellence.
  • Ability to think strategically and be hands-on while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational, time management and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong sense of ethics and propriety
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge and involvement with Jewish community-at-large is a plus.

Front Desk Receptionist

JCC Rockland is looking for part-time evening and weekend fitness receptionists to join our team of fitness professionals. The Fitness Receptionist should exemplify a high level of customer service to our members while creating a warm, friendly, and energetic environment. The fitness receptionist will be responsible for answering phones, responding to emails, handling customer issues and requests while supporting the fitness management team with day to day administrative projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet members in a warm, friendly, energetic manner
  • Answer phones within 3 rings with the appropriate greeting.
  • Insure that calls and messages are relayed appropriately
  • Assist in retail sales and personal training services. Keep retail fully stocked and front desk organized
  • Maintain all front desk ledgers such as the lost and found log, equipment maintenance log, etc.
  • Respond to members’ concerns and suggestions and complaints in a timely, consistent, and professional manner
  • Support and maintain the fitness center etiquette.
  • Assist with special projects, events and promotions as needed
  • Handle opening and closing managerial walkthroughs by using the opening and closing checklists

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher)
  • Strong interest in working in fitness industry
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and strong grasp of customer service
  • High School Diploma, 1 year of experience in hospitality/service/fitness industry
  • CPR/AED Certified

Babysitter

Babysitters are responsible for all daily programming needs and supervision of children in attendance. Babysitters work in a team context to assure that (1) programming is fulfilling the current needs of our membership and community, (2) that program space is utilized efficiently and effectively and (3) the mission and brand of the JCC is fulfilled at all times.

Hours

This is a part-time position with flexible hours. When this program lacks participants, babysitters may be able to help with other tasks as they relate to the Fitness & Wellness Center, Membership, Beyond the Bell, Camp, and other administrative tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and direction to children ranging in age from 6 weeks- 12 years
  • Positive interaction with children, parents, and co-workers
  • Assist in daily program operation
  • Set-up and clean-up of program space and activities daily
  • Implementation and follow through on all program policies and procedures
  • Keep an inventory of supplies
  • Maintain reservation book, sign in sheets and punch cards

Job Qualifications

  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications
  • Strong and customer service background

Assistant Site Leader

Reports to Site Leader

Job Duties:

  • Assist in daily schedule of activities and events
  • Assist in staff schedules- shifts & responsibilities
  • General Counselor supervision
  • Assist in preparation of snack and program supplies
  • Overall supervision and organization of program and site
  • Daily positive interaction with youth, parents and program staff
  • Special event planning
  • Planning and implementation of Club programs
  • Work in a team environment- (Site Director, Site Leader, Asst. Site Leaders and Head Counselors)
  • Implementation and follow through on all program policies and procedures
  • Assist in the upkeep of site location for cleanliness and to meet all New York State Office of Children & Family Services guidelines
  • Attend on-going staff trainings
  • Participate in Asst. Site Leaders, Site Leaders & Site Director planning meetings

Requirements:

  • 12 credits or more in childcare related courses, Associates degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with youth ages 3-13 years old
  • Minimum of 1 years experience as a supervisor
  • Great communication skills both oral and written

Hours:

  • M-F 2-6:30pm during the school year on regular school days*
  • Includes an annual fitness membership.
  • Additional hours on half day and no school days are optional.

Specialist

Do you love camp, sunshine, and working with kids? Do you have a strong skill set and passion in a particular activity? JCC Rockland Camps is seeking motivated and talented individuals to join our summer specialist team. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade.

As a specialist, you will function in a teaching role for both campers and counselors. You will be responsible for age-appropriate lesson planning to show growth and development, both physically and social-emotionally, as well as maintaining organization in your area. We all grow together!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Planning and executing 8 weeks (39 days) in your specialized activity
  • Assist in coordination of camp-wide events such as Color War & Carnival
  • Submit weekly lesson plans and equipment needs
  • Manage a camper group of 8-15 campers and instruct counselors how to assist during the activity
  • Must be able to work in a cooperative and engaging manner with campers, staff, and the leadership team
  • Instill values of sportsmanship in programming
  • Assume additional roles and responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor
  • Keep inventory of supplies and manage storage areas for cleanliness
  • Notify supervisor of any issues or concerns as it relates to schedule, facility, equipment, or behaviors that need to be addressed

Camp Counselor

Being a camp counselor can be one of the most rewarding jobs you can have in your young life. What’s better than playing games, getting crafty, and making friends outside in the sunshine?! JCC Rockland is seeking motivated individuals to join our camp counselor team. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 8th grade.

As a camp counselor, you have an important role supervising a group of campers and working closely with your support staff. You will be a “responsible camper,” having fun while leading by example and providing a safe and inclusive group environment.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Understands camp culture and willing to be “All In” for every activity throughout the day
  • Is a strong leader and self-starter
  • Has previous experience working at camp and/or with children 18 months—12 years old

  • Monday—Friday- 8:30am—4:30pm
  • June 27—August 19 (no camp on July 4)

Camp Lifeguard / Water Safety Instructor

JCC Rockland Camps is seeking skilled and motivated individuals for Lifeguard and WSI positions for summer 2022. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade.

As a camp Lifeguard and WSI, you will be responsible for the safety and learning to swim process of our campers. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Guard and instruct campers and staff during instructional and free swim periods
  • Assist Aquatics Team Leadership in the implementation of safety plans for the pool complex
  • Maintain safe swimming conditions both in the pools and on the deck, including cleanliness of pool supplies
  • Assess camper swim levels based on American Red Cross standards, and adjust to show growth throughout the summer
  • Respond to emergency situations effectively and complete incident reports as required
  • Plan and implement rainy day lessons with dry land skills and fun activities in the event of inclement weather or pool closures

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older and possess a valid Lifeguard or WSI certification, along with CPR/First Aid/AED certifications
  • Jr. Guards aged 15 may be considered with full certification based on experience
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross instructional swim levels
  • Experience working with children ages 2-15
  • Friendly and outgoing
  • Previous experience lifeguarding and/or working at summer camp a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and parents
  • WSI certification preferred, but not required
  • Dedicated and responsible

Note: Will certify qualified candidates if not currently lifeguard or WSI certified

Camp Porter

Do you love camp, sunshine, and working with kids? Do you enjoy working with your hands and have an eye for cleanliness and organization? JCC Rockland Camps is seeking a motivated individual to join the team as Camp Porter. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade at our site in West Nyack, NY.

As the Camp Porter, you will be responsible for handling a variety of tasks, and are a crucial piece of making each day run smoothly and efficiently. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining and distributing coolers and drink stations daily
  • Assist Director of Food Services with all aspects of lunch periods, as well as distributing and cleaning afternoon snack
  • Help with the car line as directed
  • Accept deliveries of all camp packages and distribute or store accordingly
  • Set up and clean-up of camp activity area supplies (archery, bikes, jump ropes, etc)
  • Check ropes course for abstractions and trash throughout day, rake as needed
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of grounds and alert professional maintenance and cleaning crews to any issues
  • Build positive and professional relationships with co-workers, campers, and other building staff

Skills/Expectations

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs or more
  • Work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to safely operate and drive a golf cart
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Has a positive, personable outlook, energetic, hardworking, effective in high pressure situations and has attention to detail

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
  • 39 days of camp (no camp July 4th)
  • With additional days and hours for orientation and set up during the two weeks prior to camp

Salary:

Stipend for summer based on experience
