Early Childhood

Assistant Teacher Infants/Toddlers, Full Time

An Assistant Teacher provides support and assistance to the lead teacher in the classroom during instruction and transitional times, such as directed lessons, free play, circle time, snack, playground, music, and lunch. They help provide a safe, nurturing, positive environment and help maintain classroom management.

Under the direction of the lead teacher, the assistant teacher will:

  • Engage with each child by playing, interacting, talking to and listening to them.
  • Provide a broad range of physical assistance to children, including in their personal needs such as toileting, changing diapers, cleaning, washing, etc.
  • Set up facilities for the teacher, including arts and crafts projects, special games, and other teaching exercises and instructions planned by the teacher.
  • May take over leadership role in the classroom during teacher’s absence.
  • Facilitate smooth transition for children from home to school.
  • Incorporate each family’s culture and tradition respectfully.
  • Complete pediatric first aid and CPR certification training.
  • Ensure that children are under direct and competent supervision at all times.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings and professional development as required.

Experience working with children necessary. Ability to sit on the floor, bend and lift up to 30 lbs. Flexibility a must. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and education.

After School Program

Beyond the Bell General Counselor

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Site Leader, a Beyond the Bell Counselor is responsible for assisting with all daily programming needs and supervision of students enrolled in the program. Counselors work in a team context to assure that (1) programming is fulfilling the current needs of our membership and community, (2) that program space is utilized efficiently and effectively and (3) the mission and brand of the JCC is fulfilled at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Positive interaction with students, parents and co-workers
  • Assist in daily program operation
  • Set-up and clean-up of program space and activities daily
  • Work in a team environment
  • Implementation and follow through on all program policies and procedures
  • Upkeep of site location for cleanliness and to meet all New York State guidelines
  • Attend on-going staff trainings and maintain required numbers of training hours
  • Provide supervision and direction to children ranging in age from K-7 grade
  • Act as a role model for participants and other staff
  • Organize and implement “Club” activities

Hours:

Depending on the site, programs run for 3-4 hours a day starting as early as 2pm.

All applicants need to be able to work a minimum of two shifts a week. Counselors may need to work additional days based on the needs of the program and the Site Leader’s requirements.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum age requirement of 16 years
  • Current HS student or beyond
  • Minimum 1 year working with school age children in some capacity (babysitting counts)

JCC Rockland Camps

Specialist

Do you love camp, sunshine, and working with kids? Do you have a strong skill set and passion in a particular activity? JCC Rockland Camps is seeking motivated and talented individuals to join our summer specialist team. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade.

As a specialist, you will function in a teaching role for both campers and counselors. You will be responsible for age-appropriate lesson planning to show growth and development, both physically and social-emotionally, as well as maintaining organization in your area. We all grow together!

JCC Rockland Camps prides itself on having creative, skilled, positive, and professional staff that embody our “#All In” mentality. Camp Counselor

Camp Lifeguard / Water Safety Instructor

JCC Rockland Camps is seeking skilled and motivated individuals for Lifeguard and WSI positions for summer 2022. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade.

As a camp Lifeguard and WSI, you will be responsible for the safety and learning to swim process of our campers.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Guard and instruct campers and staff during instructional and free swim periods
  • Assist Aquatics Team Leadership in the implementation of safety plans for the pool complex
  • Maintain safe swimming conditions both in the pools and on the deck, including cleanliness of pool supplies
  • Assess camper swim levels based on American Red Cross standards, and adjust to show growth throughout the summer
  • Respond to emergency situations effectively and complete incident reports as required
  • Plan and implement rainy day lessons with dry land skills and fun activities in the event of inclement weather or pool closures

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older and possess a valid Lifeguard or WSI certification, along with CPR/First Aid/AED certifications
  • Jr. Guards aged 15 may be considered with full certification based on experience
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross instructional swim levels
  • Experience working with children ages 2-15
  • Friendly and outgoing
  • Previous experience lifeguarding and/or working at summer camp a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and parents
  • WSI certification preferred, but not required
  • Dedicated and responsible

Camp Porter

Do you love camp, sunshine, and working with kids? Do you enjoy working with your hands and have an eye for cleanliness and organization? JCC Rockland Camps is seeking a motivated individual to join the team as Camp Porter.

We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade at our site in West Nyack, NY.

As the Camp Porter, you will be responsible for handling a variety of tasks, and are a crucial piece of making each day run smoothly and efficiently. Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining and distributing coolers and drink stations daily
  • Assist Director of Food Services with all aspects of lunch periods, as well as distributing and cleaning afternoon snack
  • Help with the car line as directed
  • Accept deliveries of all camp packages and distribute or store accordingly
  • Set up and clean-up of camp activity area supplies (archery, bikes, jump ropes, etc)
  • Check ropes course for abstractions and trash throughout day, rake as needed
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of grounds and alert professional maintenance and cleaning crews to any issues
  • Build positive and professional relationships with co-workers, campers, and other building staff

Skills/Expectations

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs or more
  • Work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to safely operate and drive a golf cart
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Has a positive, personable outlook, energetic, hardworking, effective in high pressure situations and has attention to detail
