Whether you’re looking to improve posture, strengthen your core, recover from an injury, or simply move with greater ease and confidence, our team will guide you every step of the way.
We teach both classical and contemporary Pilates methods inspired by the principles of Joseph Pilates to create a personalized, effective experience.
The Origins of Pilates
Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates and his wife Clara. While Joseph created the foundation of the method, Clara refined the exercises and teaching style, shaping how Pilates is practiced today.
Originally designed for rehabilitation, Pilates has evolved into one of the most respected movement systems in the world—helping people move pain-free, recover from injury, and build balanced, powerful bodies.
The Core Principles of Pilates
Joseph Pilates built his work around three guiding ideas: breath, whole-body health, and whole-body commitment. His students later distilled these into six key principles that continue to define the method:
This mind-body connection is what makes Pilates so effective and transformative.
Mat Pilates Classes
These classes are performed on a mat using your own body weight and small equipment such as balls, rings, and light weights. Classes are offered most days of the week, and accommodate a variety of fitness levels. Classes are listed on our Group Exercise Class Schedule, and are part of Premium JCC Membership.
Small Group Pilates Reformer Classes
Experience Pilates as it was intended, on the reformer. Reformers incorporate a system of springs and pulleys that allow your body to move through a full range of motion. Because all movements come from building a stable and strong core, this is a full-body, high-intensity workout that is easy on your joints.
Classes are offered in ongoing 4-week sessions. Drop-ins permitted for select classes based on availability. Open to all levels, including those new to the Pilates reformer.
Private Pilates Training in the JCC’s Riley Family Pilates Studio
Make the commitment and invest in your long-term health and fitness goals. Packages are designed to help you commit to your plan training, maximize results, and maintain long-term success. We recommend meeting with your Pilates Coach 1-2 times a week.
Our private studio includes reformers, a Cadillac, chair, barrel, tower bar, and other equipment to help you strengthen, lengthen, and align.
