Position Summary:

The Community Access and Engagement Manager – Reception, Access Control and Campus Support plays a key leadership role at JCC Rockland, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for members, visitors, and staff. This role oversees all front desk personnel, balancing warm hospitality with effective safety procedures, in alignment with the values and mission of the Jewish community.

Key Responsibilities:

Reception Management

  • Lead and supervise reception staff to ensure consistent, high-quality front desk service.
  • Greet and assist members, families, and guests, reflecting the values of Jewish hospitality. 
  • Manage reception scheduling, coverage, and training programs.
  • Maintain accurate member and visitor check-in records and provide data for programming and operations teams.
  • Oversee membership inquiries, program registrations, and general center information services.
  • Work with and coordinate procedures and staffing with the Campus Support supervisor.

Administrative Duties

  • Develop and maintain policies related to reception, safety, and emergency response.
  • Manage departmental budget.
  • Collaborate with facilities and programming teams to ensure safe, efficient daily operations.
  • Support large events and holiday programs with tailored security and logistical planning.

Team Leadership

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate reception personnel.
  • Promote a team culture grounded in respect, inclusion, and Jewish values.
  • Foster open communication and provide professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, public safety, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a supervisory or facilities management role, ideally in a community, faith-based, or nonprofit setting.
  • Familiarity with the needs and sensitivities of Jewish institutions and community members.
  • Experience with security systems and emergency preparedness planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in crisis situations.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working in a Community Center.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Staff Account to join our organization. In this position, you will play a critical role in supporting our existing financial team as well as the human resources/payroll director. The position currently requires 25+ hours per week. Responsibilities include:

Children and Families

Early Childhood

The lead teacher will develop program along established guidelines and provide a safe, nurturing, positive classroom environment. The lead teacher works with the assistant teacher as a team to implement daily teaching and learning activities. Expectations of preschool teachers are to be kind, professional, helpful, self-starters, and creative. Lead teachers will design plans to meet the individual needs of each child in order to reach their maximum potential. Preschool teachers need to adapt easily to changing situations and be the leader in the classroom.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Plan both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy
  • Maintain a positive physical and emotional educational environment
  • Ensure children are supervised at all times
  • Interact verbally and non-verbally with children during the day, at meal/snack times, and outside
  • Create detailed lesson plans according to established curriculum and weekly calendars
  • Collect and maintain updated information in children’s files and submit to office at the end of the school year
  • Incorporate activities and educate meaningfully about Jewish tradition, culture, values and Israel. Knowledge of Hebrew and Jewish culture or willingness to learn a plus.

Assessment

  • Use assessments to support children’s learning, via a variety of methods such as observations, class notations, checklists, and rating scales
  • Observe children’s strengths and weaknesses to inform instruction
  • Share assessment results with families
  • Maintain written records of child progress, observation, and assessment

Relationship between Teachers and Children

  • Foster children’s emotional well-being through positive social conversations, eye contact, tone of voice, and smiles
  • Treat all children with equal respect and consideration
  • Never use physical punishment, verbal abuse, threats, or derogatory remarks, nor withhold /force food as a form of discipline

Health and Safety

  • SAFETY is a prime requisite at all times- attending to this goal requires vigilant, direct visual/verbal supervision
  • Check see that food items are clearly marked with child’s name
  • Complete pediatric first aid and CPR certification training
  • Keep hot foods and liquids out of children’s reach. Personal hot drinks must have lids
  • Follow recommended practices regarding hand washing, as posted in classroom
  • Follow recommended practices regarding frequency of cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces
  • Provide rest periods for children
  • Become familiar with emergency exit procedures as well as security procedures

Classroom and Learning Environment

  • Arrive at school 30 minutes before beginning of shift and depart 30 minutes after ending of shift, when room is restored to order
  • Set up and follow a consistent daily routine and post routine in room
  • Write weekly communication to be sent home either in written form or through class blog/website

Professional Commitment

An Assistant Teacher provides support and assistance to the lead teacher in the classroom during instruction and transitional times, such as directed lessons, free play, circle time, snack, playground, music, and lunch. They help provide a safe, nurturing, positive environment and help maintain classroom management.

Under The Direction Of The Lead Teacher, The Assistant Teacher Will:

  • Engage with each child by playing, interacting, talking to and listening to them.
  • Provide a broad range of physical assistance to children, including in their personal needs such as toileting, changing diapers, cleaning, washing, etc.
  • Set up facilities for the teacher, including arts and crafts projects, special games, and other teaching exercises and instructions planned by the teacher.
  • May take over leadership role in the classroom during teacher’s absence.
  • Facilitate smooth transition for children from home to school.
  • Incorporate each family’s culture and tradition respectfully.
  • Complete pediatric first aid and CPR certification training.
  • Ensure that children are under direct and competent supervision at all times.

After School Program

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Site Leader, a Beyond the Bell Counselor is responsible for assisting with all daily programming needs and supervision of students enrolled in the program. Counselors work in a team context to assure that (1) programming is fulfilling the current needs of our membership and community, (2) that program space is utilized efficiently and effectively and (3) the mission and brand of the JCC is fulfilled at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Positive interaction with students, parents and co-workers
  • Assist in daily program operation
  • Set-up and clean-up of program space and activities daily
  • Work in a team environment
  • Implementation and follow through on all program policies and procedures
  • Upkeep of site location for cleanliness and to meet all New York State guidelines
  • Attend on-going staff trainings and maintain required numbers of training hours
  • Provide supervision and direction to children ranging in age from K-7 grade
  • Act as a role model for participants and other staff
  • Organize and implement “Club” activities

Hours

  • Depending on the site, programs run for 3-4 hours a day starting as early as 2pm.
  • All applicants need to be able to work a minimum of two shifts a week. Counselors may need to work additional days based on the needs of the program and the Site Leader’s requirements.

JCC Rockland Camps

The JCC Rockland Camps Registrar plays an integral role in building our growing camp program and being an agent for change and positive growth. The JCC Rockland Camps Registrar must be capable of “switching gears” – being approachable and fun when working with children while being organized and professional when in the office.

The JCC Rockland Camps Registrar is a will report to the JCC Rockland Program Director. The position requires expertise in working with children in an informal or experiential environment, such as summer camp or recreational children’s programs. The JCC Rockland Camps Registrar supervises staff and works alongside a team of professional colleagues as part of the JCC’s program team.

We are looking for someone energetic and motivated, with a positive, can-do attitude. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver who can work both independently and as part of a team as the situation dictates. To be successful, the JCC Rockland Camps Registrar will need to be a self-starter, who can set goals and work toward them and takes an interest in their own personal and professional development.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision for part-time and seasonal staff members as assigned.
  • Assist in preparing the annual budgets for the camp department.
  • Help develop plans for the department’s program in line with the organization’s mission and market demand.

Programming

  • Lead JCC Rockland’s summer camp program which includes:
    • Creating a camp culture instilled with spirit, positive energy, and a commitment to the organization’s values.
    • Growing program offerings, camper enrollment, and departmental revenue through enhanced marketing, outreach, relationship-building, programming, recruitment, and sales.
    • Serving as an assistant to the Camp Director during the summer and assisting in the supervising of the camp leadership team which consists of year-round and seasonal employees.
    • Overseeing the planning of all programmatic aspects of camp, such as field trips, special days and activity areas.
    • Being responsible for all aspects of camper safety.
    • Acting as the primary liaison with parents.
    • Maintaining rooms and spaces inside and outside the building utilized by camp and coordinating facility usage with building services staff.
  • Help plan and execute select programs and events throughout the year, including classes and special events. This includes, but is not limited to special events, and family engagement programs.

Administration

  • Ensure operations are in compliance with the Rockland County Health Department pertaining to the operation of a summer day camp.

Leadership

  • Take an active interest in career growth, including learning new skills, staying current on industry trends, and constantly innovating and taking calculated risks.
  • Hiring, recruiting, interviewing, and evaluating camp staff. Planning and executing staff orientation and ongoing training, scheduling staff, and leading staff meetings and trainings.
  • Participate as a member of the JCC’s program team, providing support to co-workers.
  • Conduct personal outreach to JCC members and participants, building relationships and leveraging them to encourage repeat and cross-department business.
  • Regularly assess local competition to determine brand positioning and opportunities for growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum two years of professional experience working with children, preferably in an informal/experiential environment (such as summer camp or recreational children’s programs)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Do you love camp, sunshine, and working with kids? Do you have a strong skill set and passion in a particular activity? JCC Rockland Camps is seeking motivated and talented individuals to join our summer specialist team. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade.

As a specialist, you will function in a teaching role for both campers and counselors. You will be responsible for age-appropriate lesson planning to show growth and development, both physically and social-emotionally, as well as maintaining organization in your area. We all grow together!

JCC Rockland Camps is seeking skilled and motivated individuals for Lifeguard and WSI positions for summer 2025. We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade.

As a camp Lifeguard and WSI, you will be responsible for the safety and learning to swim process of our campers.

Specific responsibilities include

  • Guard and instruct campers and staff during instructional and free swim periods
  • Assist Aquatics Team Leadership in the implementation of safety plans for the pool complex
  • Maintain safe swimming conditions both in the pools and on the deck, including cleanliness of pool supplies
  • Assess camper swim levels based on American Red Cross standards, and adjust to show growth throughout the summer
  • Respond to emergency situations effectively and complete incident reports as required
  • Plan and implement rainy day lessons with dry land skills and fun activities in the event of inclement weather or pool closures

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years of age or older and possess a valid Lifeguard or WSI certification, along with CPR/First Aid/AED certifications
  • Jr. Guards aged 15 may be considered with full certification based on experience
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross instructional swim levels
  • Experience working with children ages 2-15
  • Friendly and outgoing
  • Previous experience lifeguarding and/or working at summer camp a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and parents
  • WSI certification preferred, but not required

Do you love camp, sunshine, and working with kids? Do you enjoy working with your hands and have an eye for cleanliness and organization? JCC Rockland Camps is seeking a motivated individual to join the team as Camp Porter.

We provide unique and engaging summer experiences for campers ages 18 months through entering 10th grade at our site in West Nyack, NY.

As the Camp Porter, you will be responsible for handling a variety of tasks, and are a crucial piece of making each day run smoothly and efficiently.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining and distributing coolers and drink stations daily
  • Assist Director of Food Services with all aspects of lunch periods, as well as distributing and cleaning afternoon snack
  • Help with the car line as directed
  • Accept deliveries of all camp packages and distribute or store accordingly
  • Set up and clean-up of camp activity area supplies (archery, bikes, jump ropes, etc)
  • Check ropes course for abstractions and trash throughout day, rake as needed
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of grounds and alert professional maintenance and cleaning crews to any issues
  • Build positive and professional relationships with co-workers, campers, and other building staff

Skills/Expectations

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs or more
  • Work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to safely operate and drive a golf cart
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
