I love a “to do” list. Or I should say – I LOVE crossing things my OFF my “to do” list. So satisfying!

I get the same sense of accomplishment when I log my workouts on the JCC Rockland app. It also keeps me focused, organized, and help my stick to my routine routine.

Each time I workout, I can see cool facts. My average speed on the treadmill, heart rate (if I’m wearing a monitor), calories I’ve burned, and – my favorite – how many move points I earned. Moves are ways to measure your workout effort.

We are all familiar with the way a pedometer counts steps, right? You could spend 30 minutes on an exercise bike, get a great workout–but you won’t rack up any steps. (How frustrating!) Whereas you would rack up tons of move points and get the credit for all of your hard work! The harder you work the more moves you get.

A healthy, active adult should aim to accumulate 1,000 moves a day. This is roughly the equivalent of 10,000 steps.

I think the easiest way to log workouts is on the JCC Rockland app. (No smart phone – no problem! You can log your workouts on a tablet or home computer by accessing your account at mywellness.com. Or, you can use an ipad at the fitness reception desk.)

Below are step-by-step instructions of how to sign-up for the challenge on your smart phone or tablet.

  1. Open the JCC Rockland App
  2. On the home screen, click on the box that says Let’s Move for a Better World Challenge®
  3. Press “join the challenge”

how to log a group exercise class

Here is how to log a group exercise class on the JCC Rockland app

  1. Open the JCC Rockland app
  2. Scroll down to “Class timetable.”
  3. Press “SEE ALL”
  4. Choose the day and the class you took
  5. Press “Declare Done”
  6. Hit the “x” at the top left, then the back arrow
  7. Select the results tab, third from the left at the bottom
  8. Select the class you did, and see how many moves you earned

how to log a “Do it Yourself” Workout

Here is an example of one of my typical workout sessions, where I did some weight training, and then rode the elliptical.

  1. Open the JCC Rockland app
  2. Choose the Move button, second from the left
  3. Press “Do it Yourself”
  4. Type Weight Training, and select the time
  5. Hit Save
  6. Select the results tab, third from the left at the bottom
  7. Select Weight Training, and see how many moves were earned

I can follow the steps above to log my elliptical workout. Or, I can simplify and use the app’s QR reader.

  1. Open the JCC Rockland app
  2. Choose the Move button, second from the left at the bottom
  3. Press the QR code icon
  4. Hold your phone over the QR code on the elliptical, and adjust time and level
  5. Select the results tab, third from the left at the bottom
  6. Select ellitptical, and see how many moves were earned
