We Are Getting the JCC Campus Ready for You: Time to Get Your Body and Mind Ready for Re-entry into the World

I feel a little sheepish admitting it, but there are some aspects about “quaran-time” that I am appreciating.

My family eats dinner at 5pm.
I haven’t spent money on gas in more than a month.
I take a long, relaxing stroll most evenings.

I’m loving that my family is on the same schedule–we eat dinner together every night. Back in the real world, this happened once a week, if that.

Our schedules were all over the place–someone always had a practice, game, or meeting. Dinner was rushed, and the conversations usually started with “I’m not hungry.” Or, “Save mine. I’ll eat later. I have too much homework.”

That was life before. Frankly, I don’t miss it,

I know eventually I will need to buy gas, and it won’t be possible to start preparing dinner at 4:30pm. There will be no time to take walks after dinner–laundry, housework, and the like, will over-rule it.

Don’t get me wrong–I am whole-heartely looking forward to things re-opening. It’s constantly on my mind–but I also know there will be a period of adjustment in getting back to normal.

I can’t shake the feeling that it will be like the first day back at work after being on vacation: OVERWHELMING.

Even after most weekends I had a bad case of the Sundays.That alarm going off on Monday morning always seemed so cruel.

I need to start snapping out of it, and focus on the next phase: Re-entry into the world.

It won’t be exactly the same, but I will see and do things that we bring familiarity–like meeting friends for dinner, getting my haircut, and YES–COMING BACK TO THE JCC. For me, what’s familiar increases my comfort level.

This is the perfect time to start wrapping our brains around getting ready to pick-up where we left off.

Start slow, go at your own pace. Here are some steps to you can take to ready yourself for coming back to the J:

    1. Scroll through our library of virtual fitness classes on our website. You will see some familiar faces who look forward to seeing you in person. Our group exercise instructors have been the unsung heroes of social fitness, as they have continued to be here for all of us.
    2. Read our Fitness FAQs. See that we are leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to create a safe and healthy environment.
    3. Download the JCC Rockland App and start to get comfortable with it. This is where you will find the virtual fitness class schedule and quick links to updates on opening. This is the system you will use to book all Fitness Center visits when we open. We have posted tips and instructions on our website on how to download the app to your smartphone or tablet, and how to navigate the reservation system.
    4. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST SET-UP YOUR OWN ACCOUNT IN THE APP IN ORDER TO USE THE BOOKING SYSTEM. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SMARTPHONE OR TABLET, GO TO WWW.MYWELLNESS.COM AND CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT, TODAY.
