Ten Years in the Making

As we get ready to celebrate the 10th anniversary of JCC Rockland’s home at 450 West Nyack Rd, and my tenth year of employment here, it is time to take a look back at all we have accomplished and set plans for what is to come.

When I first joined the JCC Rockland team in February of 2008, they had recently opened the doors of a brand new facility. They were focused on bringing in new families to the community and meeting everyone’s needs, wants and desires. I was so excited to see what was in place, as well as all the potential for growth. And less than a year later we were running school break programs (then called Vacation Sensation and now better known as JRock), after school enrichment programs, and birthday parties. We continued to grow and the offerings changed over the years based on interest, instructors and community needs. Our family events grew as we added Character Breakfast, now known as Purim Palooza, Chocolate Seder (currently part of our NEW Holiday Story Time lineup) and expanded our Koenig Family Hanukkah Concert to a Hanukkah Hoopla with entertainment, crafts and games. We have come so far and created amazing memories and relationships with youth, families, and the community as a whole.

JCC Rockland Camps has blossomed over the past ten years as well, from only offering a pre-school camp program for toddlers and an off-site partnership camp program with 92nd Street Y Camp Yomi, to currently offering eight different summer program options for youth and teens 18 months thru entering 10th grade with over 500 individual campers attending each summer.

So as we look back at how far we have come, it is time to look forward to see where our journey will continue. We are once again reaching out and asking our community what you want, need and desire here at JCC Rockland. How can we best serve the needs of your family through programs and offerings? Please take a moment to give us your feedback as we want to hear from you, how we can make the next ten years just as spectacular as our first.
