Pink Day at the J Open House

One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women.

Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 460 will die each year.*

Statistics are scary. I don’t know about you, but seeing this makes me want to stick my head in the sand.

But I know I can’t.

Both of my grandmothers had breast cancer. So did my mother-in-law. With my mother-in-law, awareness and early intervention were critical, and she is cancer-free today.

We are designating Thursday, October 19, as our “Pink Day at the J Open House” to create awareness and support for those whose lives have been turned upside down by breast cancer. Please see Ellen or Marjorie to get a complimentary “Pink Pass” for your friends to join you for a workout or other activities going on that day–including a health and wellness fair and a lecture given by the Medical Director of the Center for Breast Health from Good Samaritan Hospital.

We are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness all month long by teaming up with I Support the Girls to collect NEW bras/sports bras (all sizes), maxipads and tampons. Please look for collection bins around the JCC.
