Covid 19 updates

Sunday, March 15

To Our JCC Community:

This has been a difficult week as we have watched the spread of the coronavirus pandemic around the world. Although we have been reluctant to close JCC Rockland knowing that it provides such a valued point of connection for the community, in our hearts and minds, we know that it is the right decision.

Following both Jewish values of pekuach nefesh (preserving life) and kol arevim zah la zeh (we are all responsible for one another), and advice from local and national health professionals, we have agreed that JCC Rockland will be closing at 7 pm today, Sunday, March 15.

While no JCC participants or professionals have been diagnosed with COVID-19, we must take these precautions for the safety of all. For now, the JCC will remain closed through March 29. Throughout this time we will keep you informed, and will further assess the situation. If we deem necessary, we will remain closed beyond that date.

Please understand that this was an incredibly difficult decision to make. Knowing that the next steps are critical to both our members and our mission, we are actively reviewing how the closure of the JCC affects program related fees, enrollment expenses, and membership dues. We promise to share an update on those topics by the end of the week.

We are hopeful that our members will continue to support the JCC in any way possible during this period of time; in this way, we can ensure that the JCC remains prepared to meet the needs of those most challenged and sustain our abilities to serve the entire community for years to come.

Feel free to email our Chief Operating Officer, Eliza Millman, at elizam@jccrockland.org with any questions. We belong to a unique and wonderful community. Our Jewish values have driven these decisions, difficult as they may be because we care about the people who come here each day. We value you as part of this community and as JCC supporters. You are the reason that the JCC has value and our ability to help you live healthy, full lives of purpose and meaning is at the heart of all we do.

May you go from strength to strength,

Dear Friends,

At a time when we are flooded with information about COVID-19, JCC Rockland would like to remind you that your health and well-being is our top priority.

We take great pride in the cleanliness of our facility and we know this is currently of utmost importance. We are reviewing and enhancing our cleaning practices to ensure we continue to maintain a healthy environment for all who visit our building. We are following updates from local, state and national health departments and the CDC. We will continue to follow any new guidelines the CDC may issue.

In accordance with the CDC, we can stop the spread of germs by:

  • Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoiding contact with your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Staying home when you are sick
  • Covering your cough or sneeze
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surface

Furthermore, we have taken further measures including, but not limited to:

  • Adding sanitizer dispensers in more locations throughout the building
  • Enhancing our commercial-grade facility cleanings
  • Encouraging staff and members to stay home if they are not feeling well
  • Instructing fitness staff to wipe down surfaces, in addition to what our cleaning staff does
  • Instructing staff members to wipe down work stations at shift changes
  • Encouraging members to wipe down fitness equipment before and after each use

We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any disruptions to our usual operations. Community is at the heart of our mission. And, we are grateful to be a part of a community that cares deeply and supports one another. Let’s all do our part to stay healthy.
