Athletics Specialist II JCC Rockland Camps

OVERVIEW

The Athletics Specialist II serves as a member of the JCC professional staff. The specialist works within the framework of the total agency program and objectives to which the program is related. The specialist at JCC Rockland Camps implements and executes instruction for the purpose of improvement and teaching skills to campers entering grades 3-8. S/He is responsible for the after:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Planning and executing 8 weeks of sports, ropes and other program area instruction and skill building
  • • Assist in coordination of camp wide events such as Color Run & Carnival
  • Submit weekly lesson plans and supply lists
  • Manage a camper group of 8-15 campers and instruct counselors how to assist during activity sessions
  • Must be able to work and cooperate in a friendly manner with campers, staff and administration
  • Integrating a strong understanding of sportsmanship in programming
  • Assume additional roles and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
  • Keep an inventory of supplies and manage storage areas for cleanliness
  • Notify supervisor of any issues or concerns as it relates to schedule, facility, equipment or behaviors that need to be addressed

SCHEDULE

June 26-Aug 18 M-F 8:30am-4:30pm (no camp July 4)
Set-up, meetings & trainings during the two weeks prior

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have background in sports education or relevant field
  • Knowledge of and or experience working with youth in elementary and middle school
  • Experience working in a day camp setting a plus
  • Ability to plan and schedule
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Grad student or beyond
  • High-energy, enthusiastic & creative
  • Knowledge of popular sports such as baseball, soccer, tennis, LAX, basketball, hockey as well as group games and camp activities
  • Yoga, Gymnastics or Archery skills, experience or certifications a plus
